Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

Novelist Paul Levine, a Penn State Distinguished Alumnus, recently released "Lassiter," his eighth book featuring Jake Lassiter, a fictional mystery-solver who went from walk-on linebacker and Penn State graduate to Miami defense attorney. In this special column, Levine -- himself a Penn State graduate-turned Miami lawyer before becoming a full-time writer -- explores the little-known link between his protagonist and Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, whom Levine describes as an influence on his own life, as well as his character's. Alumnus offers proceeds from e-book to help Hershey kids with cancer

To mark the 20th anniversary of its hardcover publication, the popular novel "To Speak for the Dead," written by Penn State alumnus Paul Levine, is being re-issued as an e-book with proceeds going to support cancer treatment and research at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. Levine, a 1969 Penn State graduate, is a former trial lawyer, screenwriter and now best-selling novelist of legal thrillers. (more)
