Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

Karen B. Peetz was unanimously elected chair of Penn State's Board of Trustees on Friday Jan.20 during the trustees meeting held at the Nittany Lion Inn on Penn State's University Park campus. Keith E. Masser was unanimously elected as vice chair.

Karen B. Peetz was elected chair of Penn State's Board of Trustees Friday (Jan. 20). Keith E. Masser was elected vice chair. Peetz and Masser succeed Steve A. Garban and John P. Surma, who served as chair and vice chair, respectively, in 2010 and 2011. David J. Gray, whose appointment as senior vice president for finance and business also was approved by the board, was elected treasurer, effective Feb. 6. (more)

The Penn State Board of Trustees Friday (Jan. 22) selected six Penn State alumni to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award, the University's highest award for an individual. They include Joan Amble, Gen. C. Robert Kehler, Daniel S. Mead, Karen B. Peetz, Richard L. Trumka and Johannes D. Veldhuis. (more)
