Penn State's John Cappelletti has been named Big Ten Icon No. 16. The countdown of Big Ten Icons, presented by Discover, continues at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Oct. 12, with a profile of the 1973 Heisman Trophy winner. New episodes of the 20-episode series, hosted by legendary broadcaster Keith Jackson, debut at 9 p.m. ET every Tuesday night through the end of football season and into the spring. Cappelletti will forever remembered for his emotional speech in accepting the 1973 Heisman Trophy, when he stated that he wanted to give the trophy to his younger brother, Joey, who was battling leukemia. Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. ET, immediately following the Cappelletti episode of Big Ten Icons, the Big Ten Network will air the 1977 television movie, "Something for Joey," about the special relationship between John and Joey Cappelletti. Penn State and its Big Ten Icon, Heisman Trophy winner John Cappelletti, have a narrow lead entering the final month of the Big Ten Icons "Bobblethon." Penn State and Michigan (Charles Woodson bobblehead) have swapped the lead several times during the past two weeks. The Big Ten Icon bobblehead that receives the most clicks as of Saturday, July 31 will earn $10,000 in scholarships for the winning institution's alumni association. (more)

Throughout the Big Ten Conference's illustrious history, many student-athletes have defined excellence: National Champions, All-Americans, Olympians. Their jerseys hang from the rafters. They are the standard against which all others are measured, the players who made the conference big. Beginning this fall, the Big Ten Network will celebrate these individuals with its most ambitious project in its three-year history: a multi-platform event whose centerpiece is a new 20-episode series, Big Ten Icons, hosted by legendary college sports broadcaster Keith Jackson. The show debuts Sept. 18 following a Big Ten Network football telecast in which Icon No. 20 will be revealed. The countdown continues every Tuesday night through the end of football season and into the spring. The No. 1 Big Ten Icon will be revealed around the 2011 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament. (more)

Penn State's legendary Heisman Trophy winner, John Cappelletti, and national media personality Dan Patrick will be among the participants at the Sports Illustrated Heisman Tour Presented by Nissan here this weekend. The event celebrates the 75th Anniversary of the Heisman Trophy. The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 and will precede the highly-anticipated Penn State-Ohio State clash, which will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Beaver Stadium's 300th game. (more)
