Penn State's Information Technology Services is activating a new email filter to prevent the accumulation of unsolicited email (also known as spam) in the inboxes of University faculty, staff and students. The new email filter, which is set to activate on Tuesday, May 22, will identify suspicious messages such as phishing scams and other email-based fraud. To encourage adoption of the latest wireless technologies at Penn State, the University will end the "wireless 1.0" Virtual Private Network (VPN) service on July 1. All users should plan to transition to the University's latest "wireless 2.0" service for on-campus wireless connectivity. (more)

Faculty, instructors and graduate students are invited to sign up for free workshops during two Summer-Fest sessions developed to target technology as it relates to pedagogy and research. Sessions are scheduled to take place during the week between spring and summer semesters (May 7-11), as well as the week before the start of fall semester (Aug. 13-17). (more)

Rodney Erickson, Penn State's executive vice president and provost, recently issued a notice to students, faculty and staff requesting that all Penn State community members comply with federal copyright laws and University copyright policy. The notice stated that the unauthorized downloading of copyrighted material is against federal and state law and therefore requires the University to officially respond to any reported copyright violations. The Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Publication Suite is now available to the Penn State community. ITIL is an online information technology management framework that provides educational publications to senior executives, managers, and decision-makers in the IT field. The reference collection incorporates a cohesive set of ITIL best practices drawn from the public and private sectors, and focuses on IT service management, development and operations. (more)
