New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Hintz Family Student Center opens its doors to HHD students

The Hintz Family Student Center (10 Henderson Building) has enough tables, chairs, and study space to accommodate eighty to ninety students at any given time.

Students in the College of Health and Human Development on the University Park campus now have a place in Henderson Building where they can study, check e-mail, or meet up with friends. Room 10 Henderson Building has undergone a large-scale renovation and has been converted into the Hintz Family Student Center. (more)

Popular media frequently distill the complex issues facing the world today into sound bites, talking points and occasional shouting matches among opposing sides. A new Penn State initiative spearheaded by University President Graham Spanier, however, is seeking to ensure that the next generation of leaders develops the critical thinking skills necessary to make decisions based on all angles of a complicated issue.
