Arteries carry blood rich in oxygen and nutrients from your heart to the rest of your body. When the arteries in your legs become blocked, your legs do not receive enough blood or oxygen, leading to a condition called peripheral artery disease (PAD). (more)

Highmark Blue Shield, the administrator of Penn State's Health Care Plan, is offering a program on healthy eating at Penn State New Kensington. The six-week, lifestyle-improvement program, "Eat Well for Life I," is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m., on consecutive Fridays, Feb. 17 through March 23, in the campus' Information Technology Center, room 31. The sessions discuss long-term weight management through good nutrition. Topics include easy meal planning tools, smart shopping strategies, and healthy cooking. Penn State students who are interested in promoting health among their peers can apply to participate in HealthWorks, a student peer education and outreach program within University Health Services (UHS). Membership applications will be accepted through March 2 for the 2012 - 2013 school year. (more)
The Hershey Company and Children's Miracle Network at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital will hold a Zumbathon from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 17, at the Hershey Company Fitness Center at 14 East Chocolate Ave., in Hershey, Pa. The event will include a Zumba fitness workout, door prizes, basket raffles and more. (more)
Penn State College of Medicine scientists are doing research that seeks to understand the effects of the metal manganese on brain functions. This research builds on the results of an earlier, smaller-scale study that looked at welders. (more)
Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute researchers are trying to determine if selenium yeast and selenomethionine lower prostate-specific antigen levels and prevent other markers related to prostate cancer development in healthy individuals of different age groups. (more)
