New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Loy, retired deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Coast Guard commandant, will deliver Penn State Harrisburg's spring commencement address on Saturday, May 5. The college will confer more than 600 undergraduate and graduate degrees during the ceremony, which starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Giant Center in Hershey. (more)

Penn State Harrisburg senior engineering and engineering technology students may be on to something big. Projects they've developed during their capstone design course have the potential to save lives in the workplace, make land and air transportation safer, and aid people with disabilities.

On Saturday April 21, students will present these senior projects and more during the campus' first Engineering Capstone Design Conference, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the Penn State Harrisburg campus in Middletown, Pa. (more)

Marcellus Taylor, a senior sociology student at Penn State Harrisburg, has received the University's 2012 Ralph Dorn Hetzel Memorial Award. Named for Penn State's 10th president, the award recognizes outstanding scholastic achievement, good citizenship, and leadership in student activities and is presented to just two students University-wide each year. Taylor is the eighth Penn State Harrisburg student to receive the honor. (more)
