New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Glee Club 'Bursts Out Singing' at fall concert

The Penn State Glee Club is made up of 75 singers who auditioned into the group. The ensemble is open to all undergraduate and graduate students at University Park. The group's performs a wide range of music from the Renaissance through the twenty-first century, and it will be making its first appearance in a Penn State President's Concert on Feb. 28 in Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh.

The Penn State Glee Club performed the world premiere of 'Everyone Burst Out Singing,' the U.S. premiere of 'Ancient Forests Once Stood Here' and a rousing chorus from Gilbert and Sullivan among other selections at its fall concert Saturday, Nov. 5, in Schwab Auditorium on Penn State's University Park campus. The group is one of three that will perform during the Penn State President's Concert, scheduled for Feb. 28 in Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh. The Glee Club is the oldest student organization at Penn State. Membership is by audition and is open to all undergraduate and graduate students at University Park. We had a great day at Wellington College singing with some of the local high school aged men. In spite of the wet weather, our spirits are high and we're having a good time. (more)

Coming up on a week into the tour, we have arrived at our fourth city in New Zealand, Nelson. We had a very scenic drive up the west coast from Queenstown to Greymouth for a stop overnight. (more)

Hello from Queenstown, New Zealand! Our apologies for the gap in blog postings. The Internet is difficult to come by these days. Today is our last day here as we get ready to move on to Greymouth. It's been a very exciting place to visit. Before we left Christchurch on Friday, we had the opportunity to be featured on New Zealand's most watched morning news program (equivalent to the Today Show). (more)

Glee Club marks 120th anniversary with Blue and White Concert

This year's edition of the annual Blue and White Concert, scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in Schwab Auditorium, will mark the 120th anniversary of the Penn State Glee Club. Over spring break, the Penn State Glee Club went on a tour, singing at various locations. The first stop on the tour was Smith College in Northhampton, Mass. Smith, an all-women's college, performed a concert featuring Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem with the Glee Club on Saturday night. Another stop on the tour was the Evangelical Congregational Church of Westborough, Mass, where, the Hi-Los, a small ensemble taken from within the Glee Club, also performed. One tradition of the annual tour is traveling to area schools and performing clinics for them, and this tour held to the tradition, performing at Stoughton High School in Stoughton, Mass.
