More than 3,100 veteran and active-duty military students are using their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits to earn degrees at Penn State as of spring 2011, a 21 percent increase over last year. More military veterans and active-duty military members are choosing Penn State as their education provider. As of spring 2011, there were 3,166 students using their Post 9/11 G.I. Bill benefits throughout the University system -- an increase of 21 percent over 2010. With the planned drawdown of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, the number of these students will likely continue to increase at all Penn State campuses. A series of free professional development webinars, developed by a University-wide team in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Center, is being offered to staff members who assist these students with admissions, advising, financial aid, outreach, psychological and disabilities services.
