The 46-hour Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) once again has set a new record, raising $10,686,924.83 for the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital, surpassing last year's record $9.56 million. Funds raised by THON go to support the Four Diamonds Fund and its pediatric cancer patients, families and researchers at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital who are working to find better treatments and, ultimately, cures for forms of cancer that afflict children. First held in 1973, THON has partnered with Four Diamonds Fund since 1977 and in that time has raised more than $89 million FTK -- "For The Kids." (more)
Tuesday, Nov. 15, marks the fifth annual THON Faculty and Staff Luncheon, held at the Hintz Family Alumni Center on the University Park campus. THON has raised more than $78 million for the Four Diamonds Fund, which offers financial and emotional support for children and families fighting pediatric cancer and also supports pediatric oncology research at the Penn State College of Medicine. All faculty and staff are invited to the free luncheon; an RSVP is requested by Friday, Oct. 28. (more)

Jan. 21-23 marks the third canning weekend of the 2011 Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, affectionately known as THON. Students in organizations and those who are trying to dance independently in THON will head to places such as Harrisburg, Philadelphia, New Jersey and New York to stand outside for hours to raise money for The Four Diamonds Fund. Tuesday, Nov. 16, will mark the fourth annual THON Faculty and Staff Luncheon at the Hintz Family Alumni Center on Penn State's University Park campus. The luncheon will feature guest speakers from the Four Diamonds Fund who will offer various perspectives on how the fund has personally impacted their lives. In addition, a presentation will be given about THON's impact on the fund and how Penn State faculty and staff can join in the fight against pediatric cancer. Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital is just the third children's hospital in the United States and the first in the Eastern region of the country to acquire a new, minimally invasive neurosurgical medical device that makes pediatric brain and spine tumor removal faster and easier. "The Myriad represents the most significant advance in minimally invasive neurosurgery in the past decade," said Mark Dias, director of pediatric neurosurgery at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. "In particular, its use in endoscopic neurosurgery will substantively move the field forward, allowing neurosurgeons much greater flexibility than ever before." (more)
To mark the 20th anniversary of its hardcover publication, the popular novel "To Speak for the Dead," written by Penn State alumnus Paul Levine, is being re-issued as an e-book with proceeds going to support cancer treatment and research at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital. Levine, a 1969 Penn State graduate, is a former trial lawyer, screenwriter and now best-selling novelist of legal thrillers. (more)

More than 350 Penn State student THON volunteers, Four Diamonds Fund caregivers, donors and friends of Penn State's Dance Marathon gathered Jan. 29 for the Road to THON Celebration dinner at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. The dinner was held just three weeks before the start of THON 2009, Feb. 20-22, 2009, at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center, where more than 700 dancers and more than 15,000 Penn State students will celebrate the culmination of their annual effort to raise millions of dollars to support research and care for children with cancer.
