New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Penn State's football season will get under way with Penn State Football Eve on Friday, Sept. 2. The event, now in its eighth year, features a carnival-like atmosphere outside Beaver Stadium, followed by a celebration inside the stadium with the team and Coach Joe Paterno. College Colors Day also will be observed on Sept. 2, and the College Fishing Festival will be held at the Bryce Jordan Center Sept. 1-3. (more)

Penn State will kick off the 2011 campaign with "Penn State Football Eve" on Friday, Sept. 2. The eighth annual event starts the new season with a festival-like atmosphere surrounding Beaver Stadium followed by a celebration inside the stadium with the team and Coach Joe Paterno. The event will launch the celebration of 125 years of Penn State Football. Admission and parking are free for Penn State Football Eve. The Nittany Lions' season opener against Indiana State is the following day at noon. (more)

Penn State will kick off the 2010 campaign with "Penn State Football Eve presented by HappyValley.com" on Friday, Sept. 3. The seventh annual event starts the new season with a festival-like atmosphere surrounding Beaver Stadium followed by a celebration inside the stadium with the team and Coach Joe Paterno. The "night before" activities outside the stadium include festival food and fun along Curtin Road, which will become a fan promenade at 6 p.m. Kids games, food, surprises and music will all be part of the promenade. Penn State will kick off the 2009 campaign with "Penn State Football Eve" on Friday, Sept. 4. The annual event starts the new season with a festival-like atmosphere surrounding Beaver Stadium followed by a celebration inside the stadium with the team and Coach Joe Paterno. The "night before" activities outside the stadium include festival food and fun along Curtin Road, which will become a fan promenade at 6 p.m. Kids' games, food, surprises and music all will be part of the promenade. Stadium gates open at 7 p.m. for fans who wish to be seated early for a showing of 2008 football highlights. The program inside the stadium starts at 7:30 p.m. and features the Blue Band, cheerleaders, dance team and videos. The seniors will be introduced and after Paterno's address to the crowd a new stadium video will be unveiled, as will 2008 on the listing of Penn State undefeated and championship teams on the facing of the east side suites.
