New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Hunnell Scholarship to benefit Greene County students

Charles Evans Hunnell, an alumnus of Penn State's College of Education, has given $100,000 to endow a scholarship in the college for students who have financial need. First preference for the award will go to those who graduated from a high school in Greene County, in southwestern Pennsylvania. The Florence Vernon Hunnell Trustee Scholarship in Education is named in memory of the donor's mother, who passed away in 2005. (more)
