New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

June 24: Lake Erie alumni golf scramble benefits Behrend scholarship

The Lake Erie Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association has provided more than $100,000 in scholarship money to Penn State Behrend students.

The Lake Erie Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association will hold its 19th annual charity golf scramble on Sunday, June 24, at Venango Valley Inn and Golf Course, in Venango, Pa. A sensor that will be launched on a NASA rocket and a GPS collar that will correct a wandering dog are among the senior design projects that students at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will present Saturday at the Richard J. Fasenmyer Engineering Design Conference. The half-hour sessions begin at 8 a.m. in the Jack Burke Research and Economic Development Center. They are free and open to the public. (more)

Penn State men's hockey coach Guy Gadowsky will join football coach Bill O'Brien for the final week of the Coaches Caravan, which stops at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Wednesday, May 16. Tickets for the 11:30 a.m. event, which is sponsored by the Penn State Alumni Association and the Nittany Lion Club, cost $30 for alumni association members and $45 for nonmembers. (more)
