If every on-campus student at University Park reduced his or her time in the shower by just five minutes, Penn State would save 100,000 gallons of water each school year. That is enough to fill five swimming pools and lower the University's carbon footprint by 18,980 pounds every year. (more)

Approximately 200 Penn State employees packed the HUB-Robeson Center's Alumni Hall for their biyearly greening. The 2009 Spring Forum for the Future attracted individuals from all University units, offices and campuses. The morning-long conference focused on environmental purchasing and what Penn State is doing and can do to become more sustainable. (more)

"You can change the world," Bill Nye the Science Guy told Penn State students Tuesday (Oct. 15) at an environmental forum on the University Park campus. "We have to find ways to do more with less," he said. "That is the key to the future. There is no cavalry coming over the hill. This planet is all we've got. Inefficiency is affecting everyone. Bill Nye the Science Guy is bringing his concerns for the environment to Penn State. Nye, who hosted the Emmy Award-winning educational television program, "Bill Nye the Science Guy," will speak at an environmental forum at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in Recreation Building on the University Park campus. The forum, which will focus on student life, is the third in a series presented by the Division of Business and Finance's Environmental Key Initiative. Prior to Nye's talk, student groups will present practical demonstrations of sustainability in action, including one featuring the Nittany Lion Mascot. (more)
