Participating in an international experience traditionally means study abroad or a similar college program. But an engineering leadership course is letting students learn in a global context without having to leave the confines of campus. The class, International Leadership of Enterprise and Development (ILEAD), teams students in Penn State's engineering leadership program with economics students at Corvinus University in Budapest, Hungary, using the latest information technology available.
Hans Verlinde, professor and associate head of the meteorology graduate program, and Arthur Small, CEO of Venti Risk Management, will present "Using Statistical Decision Theory and Dynamic Programming to Improve Scientific Data Collection" at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, in 102 Leonhard Building on the University Park campus of Penn state. Middle and high school students will be able to learn about engineering, science, and information sciences and technology on Saturday, March 3, at Penn State York's "Explore the Worlds" event. The program will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will offer hands-on activities. A series of workshops for parents about choosing a college and paying for college also will be offered throughout the day. Registration is free, and complimentary lunch will be served. (more)

Penn State York is continuing to offer the Chancellor's Honor Certificate in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), designed to provide students with the skills they need for jobs in the 21st century. Studies have shown that the demand for students with STEM degrees continues to grow. The certificate is designed for high school students taking part in the dual enrollment program.
Through dual enrollment, high school students can earn college credit while still in high school. A variety of courses are available at the campus for dual enrollment and courses toward the STEM certificate are included. High school juniors and seniors with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 and qualifying Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores are eligible to take part in the program. (more)
