A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Penn State's ACC/Big Ten Challenge clash with Maryland on Wednesday, Dec. 1 has been set for a 9:15 p.m. tip on ESPN2. The Bryce Jordan Center showdown will be the second-to-last of the 11 Challenge games scheduled between Nov. 29 and Dec. 1 and airing on the ESPN networks. Penn State also announced that its non-conference clash with Maine will be moved to Tues., Dec. 21 in order to accommodate conference and network partner's television broadcast requirements. Fans can get their first look at the 2010 Nittany Lion basketball team led by All-Big Ten guard Talor Battle on Sunday, Nov. 7 when Penn State takes on East Stroudsburg in exhibition action at the Jordan Center following the football team's Saturday clash with Northwestern in Beaver Stadium. Women's volleyball to appear on ESPN2

The Penn State women's volleyball team will have at least seven televised matches this season as ESPN announced Monday it will broadcast two matches. Penn State's Oct. 15 match with Minnesota will be tape-delayed and aired on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. on Oct. 17. In addition, the Nittany Lions' match at Michigan on Nov. 5 will air via tape-delay on Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. These are two of three Big Ten women's volleyball contests set to be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks. The Nittany Lions will also have at least five matches broadcast on the Big Ten Network in 2010. (more)

ESPN2 to air April 24 Blue-White game live

One of the nation's premier spring football events, Penn State's Blue-White Game presented by the American Automobile Association (AAA), will be televised live by ESPN2 on Saturday, April 24. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. in Beaver Stadium. As in previous years, there will be no admission or parking fee for the Blue-White game, which culminates spring practice for the Nittany Lions. The Blue-White Game also will air on the Penn State Sports Network and www.GoPSUsports.com. The Blue-White Game will be the first spring football game ESPN has televised among Big Ten Conference institutions. (more)
