Penn State has earned an unprecedented 28th Lambert Meadowlands Trophy presented by the ECAC, symbolic of Eastern football supremacy. The Nittany Lions also have been selected ECAC Team of the Year for a record 13th time. Six Penn State football student-athletes have been invited to participate in the National Football League's 2010 Scouting Combine. The Nittany Lions lead the Big Ten in total invitees the past two years with 14. Penn State All-Americans Jared Odrick (DT, Lebanon) and Navorro Bowman (LB, District Heights, Md.) will participate in the Combine, which will be held Feb. 24-March 2 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Quarterback Daryll Clark (Youngstown, Ohio), linebacker Josh Hull (Millheim), linebacker Sean Lee (Pittsburgh) and tight end Andrew Quarless (Uniondale, N.Y.) also have been invited to the Combine. A trio of Penn State record holders have accepted invitations to play in the 85th East-West Shrine Game, as quarterback Daryll Clark (Youngstown, Ohio) has joined Jeremy Boone (Mechanicsburg) and Andrew Quarless (Uniondale, N.Y.) for this week's contest. The contest will be played Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium in Orlando, Fla., the site of Penn State's 19-17 win over LSU in the Capital One Bowl on New Year's Day. The East-West Shrine Game will begin at 3 p.m. ET and be televised by ESPN2. (more)
Record-setting quarterback Daryll Clark (Youngstown, Ohio) has been named co-winner of the prestigious Chicago Tribune Silver Football, presented to the Big Ten Conference's Most Valuable Player. A two-time first team All-Big Ten honoree, Clark joins former Nittany Lion standout quarterbacks Kerry Collins (1994) and Michael Robinson (2005) as Silver Football recipients. Clark shares the 2009 honor with Michigan defensive end Brandon Graham, the first time there have been co-winners since the award was first presented in 1924. (more)
A pair of Nittany Lion standouts who were instrumental in Penn State's 42-14 win at Michigan State on Saturday have been honored by the Big Ten Conference. Junior linebacker Navorro Bowman (District Heights, Md.) was selected Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and senior quarterback Daryll Clark (Youngstown, Ohio) was selected the conference's Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season. For the second consecutive year, Penn State's Daryll Clark (Youngstown, Ohio) has been selected as a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. Clark has led the Nittany Lions to a 7-1 overall record, including a 3-1 Big Ten mark, and a No. 12 ranking in the AP poll and BCS standings. Directing the Big Ten's No. 1-ranked offense, Clark is 144 of 232 (62.1) for 1,884 yards, with 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season, with just one interception in the last four games. He also has run for 132 yards (3.1 avg.) and has four rushing touchdowns. (more)

The Penn State football team graces the cover of the Aug. 17 issue of Sports Illustrated, with a photo of senior quarterback Daryll Clark (Youngstown, Ohio) and junior center Stefen Wisniewski (Bridgeville). The Nittany Lions are one of four regional covers for SI's College Football Preview issue, which will be available on newsstands later this week. Mississippi, Oklahoma State and Oregon are the other schools featured on the regional covers. The issue with the Penn State cover will be distributed throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Upper Midwest. Sports Illustrated ranks Penn State No. 14 in its pre-season Top 20 and predicts the Nittany Lions will make their third Bowl Championship Series appearance in the past five years, facing Virginia Tech in the FedEx Orange Bowl.
