New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Peter and Angela Dal Pezzo of Fresno, Calif., have committed $100,000 to create the Global Manufacturing and Services Laboratory in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. The lab is designed to allow engineering students to experience international culture, language and education without having to leave campus and will consist of five components: a teleconferencing facility, multiple international language stations, satellite televisions, design collaborative software and an international products benchmarking station. Industrial Engineering students to benefit from Dal Pezzo scholarship

Peter and Angela Dal Pezzo of Fresno, Calif., have committed $150,000 to endow a Trustee Scholarship for students who have financial need. The award will assist students in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. Peter Dal Pezzo, a 1968 Penn State industrial engineering graduate, is a retired vice president of corporate projects for PELCO, a California-based firm that designs and manufactures video security systems and equipment.
