A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Football, cheerleaders, Berkey Creamery ice cream, tailgating.. all of the traditional elements are lined up for Penn State Abington's homecoming celebration on Saturday, Oct. 15. Participants can meet family and friends at Abington's Nittany Lion shrine and savor a scoop of ice cream from Penn State's creamery while exploring the arts and crafts marketplace on Sutherland Plaza. Participants can have their photo taken with the Nittany Lion mascot, and face painting will be available for youth. (more)

We all scream for the Behrend Alumni Society's annual Creamery sale

June 20 is the deadline for ordering half-gallons of Creamery ice cream for pick up in Erie. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Behrend Alumni Society's student scholarship.

When you sink your teeth (or tongue, for those more sensitive to the cold) into a creamy, silky-smooth scoop of Peachy Paterno, the taste in your mouth is not the result of an epiphany. Long before Joe Paterno coached his way onto the menu at Penn State's world-famous Berkey Creamery, University researchers were hard at work mastering the many aspects of food and dairy science which, combined, deliver that scoop of ice cream from the cow to your cone in spectacular fashion. "Ice Cream U: the Story of the Nation's Most Successful Creamery," an exhibit, will be on display in the main exhibit area of Pattee Library on the first floor. The exhibit, which runs from Sept. 11 to Nov. 7, features images and details from the book of the same name, written by Lee Stout. (more)

Visitors to Penn State's Berkey Creamery for a cone of the university's celebrated ice cream June 17 also got a taste of international diplomacy, as representatives of Poland's Ministry of Agriculture came to the University Park campus for a visit that acknowledged Penn State Cooperative Extension's contributions to that nation's agriculture. Penn State University Libraries have announced the release of "Ice Cream U: The story of the nation's most successful collegiate creamery," by Lee Stout.

In "Ice Cream U," Stout concentrates on one of Penn State's most popular destinations as well as the nation's oldest and most successful creamery. Librarian Emeritus Stout, who spent 27 years as Penn State University Archivist, adds his intimate knowledge of Penn State history to a wealth of old and new photos to produce a visually spectacular and interesting book. Ice cream sale benefits HRIM program

Penn State Berks is taking orders for the University's famous Creamery ice cream. Orders will be taken now through March 13, with all ice cream available for pickup from 5 to 6 p.m. March 26 in the parking lot behind the Janssen Conference Center. Ice cream that is not picked up that evening cannot be held and is nonrefundable. (more)
