Penn State Public Broadcasting will show a new episode of "Conversations from Penn State" at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19 and again at 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, on WPSU-TV. The shows will give viewers an inside look at the World in Conversation Project, a study of dialogue surrounding social and cultural issues. Sam Richards and Laurie Mulvey, co-directors of the project, talk about their race relations work and why it's okay to examine politically incorrect thoughts as a way to think through the issues. In 2007, the sports industry was stunned to discover the illegal gambling conspiracy created by then-NBA referee Tim Donaghy and professional gambler Jimmy Battista. Battista never spoke with federal authorities and much of his role in the scandal has remained a mystery ... until now. In the new book, "Gaming the Game: The Story of the NBA Betting Scandal," Penn State criminal justice expert Sean Patrick Griffin reveals information divulged by Battista himself about the intricate workings of the scheme. His acclaimed books as well as his work in law involve critical thinking, problem solving and an insightful approach to justice. On the next edition of "Conversations from Penn State," Penn State alumnus and Boalsburg native Ben Feller will discuss his career as the White House correspondent for the Associated Press. The show will air at 9 p.m. on April 14, on WPSU-TV. It also will air at 12:30 p.m. on April 18, on the Big Ten Network. "The people at the White House have a healthy respect for the dividing line and for what we do," Feller said. It's extremely rare for anyone to make a living as a theater director, but that's just what Di Trevis has been doing for 30 years. When she began, it was almost unheard of for a woman to direct, especially in a respected and professional capacity, but after eight years as an actress, she transitioned to directing and has had a successful career. She'll talk about her journey with host Patty Satalia on "Conversations from Penn State." The show will air at 12:30 p.m. March 21 on the Big Ten Network. Since the age of 10 and the untimely death of his father, Ron Mallett has wanted to build a time machine. Mallett is an accomplished theoretical physicist and professor at the University of Connecticut. He argues that time travel is not only possible, but that it has already been achieved in terms of fractions of seconds. He believes that once we develop jets that are fast enough, time travel through years will be possible. In the next episode of "Conversations from Penn State," Mallett will discuss how everything from learning math and science in grade school to earning his doctorate has been done with the intention of going back in time and seeing his father again.
