New research by Christopher Craighead, assistant professor of supply chain management at Penn State's Smeal College of Business, suggests that managers in charge of supplier selection need to consider the risks involved at the beginning of the selection process instead of waiting until all supply decisions have been made. He and his co-authors have developed a two-phase supplier-selection approach that complements traditional models by providing a second step focused on risk considerations, including factors such as culture, economy, infrastructure, and political state. The editorial board of Business Horizons, the bimonthly journal of the Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, has chosen a paper co-authored by Christopher Craighead, assistant professor of supply chain management at Penn State's Smeal College of Business, for its 2008 Best Paper Award.
