Mike Rybar made final adjustments to the Penn State Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering teams Goldberg machine prior to the 2012 Rube Goldberg competition held on Feb. 11 at Penn State's Nittany Lion Inn. Rybar and his team created a musically themed machine that needed to complete a simple task (inflate a balloon) in twenty or more elaborate steps. The annual competition is named for cartoonist Rube Goldberg who created famous artwork depicting overly complicated machines doing everyday tasks.

This year has been declared the Year of the Girl and Penn State Brandywine is joining the celebration. The campus' Laboratory for Civic Engagement is hosting a Girl Scouts of America Time Capsule Project in honor of the organization's 100-year anniversary. The capsule creation will take place in March, to coincide with the campus' Women's History Month celebrations. (more)

Penn State Brandywine recently established the Laboratory for Civic Engagement to encourage leadership among students and develop scholarship in the community while promoting citizenship on a local-to-global level. Sophomore Player of the Week nears basketball milestone

He shoots, he scores! Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team captain Rasheed Wilkins was named USCAA and PSUAC Player of the Week and is 38 points shy of his 1,000th point in only his second year.

Sophomore Rasheed Wilkins is on his way to becoming a Penn State Brandywine legend. As of Thursday, Feb. 9, the men's basketball team guard is just 38 points shy of his 1,000th point, a feat Sports Information Coordinator Melissa Algeo said is achieved only rarely by players within four years, let alone just two. Since 2003, Penn State Brandywine Student Affairs Specialist Diane Shorter and Associate Professor of Earth Sciences Laura Guertin have led an initiative to create handmade items for nonprofit organizations with an identified need. Again this year, campus and community members came together with knitting needles and crochet hooks to make scarves for Pennsylvania athletes competing in the 2012 Special Olympics USA. (more)
