Penn State supplies more than 1 billion gallons of drinking water annually to about 57,000 people on the University Park campus. To upgrade both the capacity and quality of Penn State's Water Treatment System while continuing to meet all standards for water quality, the University will expand and upgrade its treatment and filtration technologies. Penn State will convert the dining room and kitchen areas of Simmons Hall at the University Park campus for use as residence space, the University's Board of Trustees learned Friday (Jan. 21). The 16,500 square feet of renovated space will accommodate 71 student beds, along with toilet and shower facilities, student lounges and study rooms. Penn State's Board of Trustees today (Jan. 21) approved the name of the University's future state-of-the-art, multi-purpose arena - "Pegula Ice Arena"- after donors Terrence M. and Kim Pegula. In mid-September, the University announced the Pegulas' $88 million gift, the largest private gift in Penn State's history, which was intended to fund the arena as well as help to establish an NCAA Division I men's hockey program. The Penn State Board of Trustees today authorized the purchase of the building in which the Hershey Outpatient Surgery Center, LP (HOSC, LP) operates on the campus of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The building has been owned by East Campus Associates and leased to HOSC, LP. After the purchase is completed, Penn State will continue to lease the building to HOSC, LP for operation as an outpatient surgery center. HOSC, LP is managed by Titan Health of Hershey Inc. (more)
Penn State's Board of Trustees today (Jan. 21) approved Burns and McDonnell of St. Louis, Mo.,as the consulting engineering firm for the design of steam production modifications at University Park. Research space at Penn State College of Medicine will increase thanks to the nearly $2.8 million awarded to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The money is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). Two office suites on the second floor of the college will be converted from administrative office space into open laboratories, lab support rooms and offices for principal investigators in the Penn State Hershey Drug Discovery Program, which helps researchers explore potential drugs to treat disease.
