A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Penn State Hershey Medical Center continued its growth in patient volumes and experienced solid financial performance last year in the face of a rapidly changing health care environment and an expanding population of patients with little or no insurance, according to Harold L. Paz, Medical Center CEO, Penn State's senior vice president for health affairs, and dean, Penn State College of Medicine. Paz reported to faculty, staff and members of the media at the annual public Board of Directors meeting. (more)

Hershey Medical Center, will provide a review of the organization's performance during fiscal year 2009-10 at the Medical Center's annual public Board of Director's meeting from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15. Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center is on track to meet its 2008-09 budget when the current fiscal year closes June 30, despite a stagnant economy, lower than expected hospital admissions and increasing charity care costs. (more)
