Electronic Recycling Day, hosted by Keystone State Auctioneers and Lion Surplus, will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 29 at the Lion Surplus Building on Services Road on the University Park campus. The annual event provides a free, easy way for members of the Penn State community to recycle their old electronic equipment. Items only will be accepted from Penn State employees and students. The Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers will host a discussion forum on clean energy technology opportunities and challenges in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Clean Technology Forum is open to the public, and will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, March 28, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Harrisburg, Pa.
Coordinated by the Pennsylvania SBDC's Clean Technology Resource Center (CTRC), located at the Penn State SBDC, the forum is designed to help equip small businesses with the information they need to start and operate a successful clean tech company. (more)

The Wind Application Center at Penn State is now accepting applications for Pennsylvania's new Wind for Schools project. The program aims to engage rural elementary and secondary school teachers and students in wind energy education while educating college students about wind energy applications. (more)

In his policy speech today (Feb. 3) at Penn State, President Barack Obama advocated alternate energy research and increased energy efficiency. Penn State has more than 500 researchers working in the areas of energy and the environment, centered through the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment, which are working to advance the energy and environmental missions of the University. Spring Career Days will include an added focus on green careers this year thanks to a new event co-sponsored by Center for Sustainability and the Career Services Center at Penn State. From 7:30 a.m. to noon on Feb. 15 in the HUB-Robeson Center's Heritage Hall, students will have the opportunity to interact with companies and nonprofits active in sustainability issues at the University's first Green Careers Leadership Symposium. The limited allotment of 1,000 tickets made available to Penn State students and employees for admittance to President Barack Obama's speech at Rec Hall have been claimed. However, several alternatives exist for those who still wish to view the speech on the University Park campus. In addition, the speech will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network beginning at noon Eastern time on Thursday, Feb. 3. (more)

Penn State's Board of Trustees today (Jan. 21) approved Burns and McDonnell of St. Louis, Mo.,as the consulting engineering firm for the design of steam production modifications at University Park. The firm has significant experience in the design and construction of large university campus heating systems, power plants and related emission control projects. (more)
