A new episode of Big Ten Icons airs at 4 p.m. Saturday on Big Ten Network with a profile of legendary Penn State football coach Joe Paterno. The episode is the third of 12 installments of the series, hosted by Hall of Fame sports broadcaster Keith Jackson. The show includes new one-on-one interviews with Paterno, his son Jay, Tom Bradley, Fran Ganter, Michael Robinson, Adam Taliaferro, Larry Johnson, Matt Millen, Bob White, Steve Jones, Bobby Bowden, Glen Mason and others. The show will debut shortly after the Penn State-Purdue contest and post-game coverage, with kick set for noon BTN. The program will re-air Tuesday at 10 and 11:30 p.m. (more)
Penn State's 92nd Homecoming game against Purdue on Oct. 15 will kick at noon in Beaver Stadium. The contest will air on Big Ten Network, the Penn State Sports Network and www.GoPSUsports.com. The contest against the Boilermakers is the Nittany Lions' eighth announced telecast of the season. Penn State will be making its second of at least three appearances of the season on BTN. This Saturday's home clash with Iowa will kick at 3:30 p.m. and be an ABC regional telecast (ESPN in outer markets). (more)
MetroCast Communications and Big Ten Network (BTN) have announced that the network is now available to MetroCast customers in Berwick, Pocono and Schuylkill as part of the Expanded Basic package. BTN is on channel 31 in Berwick and Pocono and channel 22 in Schuylkill (as well as HD channel 731 in Berwick and Pocono). (more)
The Penn State women's basketball team revealed its 2011-12 Big Ten Conference schedule today. The Lady Lions kick off their 16-game Big Ten slate at the Bryce Jordan Center against Big Ten newcomer Nebraska on Friday, Dec. 30. Penn State will appear on national television at least eight times during the regular season, including three appearances on ESPN2 and one game on CBS. (more)
Penn State coach Patrick Chambers' first season in the Big Ten will open with road dates at Michigan and Northwestern the conference announced Wednesday when it released complete schedules, tip times and television arrangements for all 12 conference teams. The Nittany Lions will begin their 20th season of Big Ten Conference play and first under Chambers on Thursday, Dec. 29 in Ann Arbor, Mich., as they take on the Wolverines in a 7:30 p.m. ET tip on the Big Ten Network (BTN). The Lions will follow up that game with a Sunday, Jan. 1 tip at Northwestern in a 7 p.m. ET contest televised by ESPNU. (more)
Zampelli Electronics in Lewistown, Pa., and Zito Media in Coudersport, Pa. both announced this week in conjunction with the Big Ten Network that they will offer the network to their customers before the start of the college football season. Zampelli Electronics will carry the network on its standard service. Zito Media will offer BTN on its expanded basic package. Specific channel numbers for both carriers will be announced at a later date. (more)
The Big Ten Network has released a portion of its fall Olympic sports broadcast schedule, featuring at least 11 Penn State contests. BTN will have coverage of five conference championships this fall, as well as an extensive line-up of Student U and BTN.com events to be announced. The Penn State women's volleyball team will have a minimum of seven matches on BTM this season. At least two men's soccer matches, one women's soccer contest and one field hockey match featuring the Nittany Lions also will be televised. Big Ten Network also will have coverage of the Big Ten field hockey, men's and women's soccer and men's and women's cross country championships. (more)
For the fifth straight year, Dave Revsine, Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith will zigzag across Big Ten country to bring fans a 30-minute, on-site preview show from every Big Ten campus on the Big Ten Network's Big Ten Football Preview Tour, presented by Culligan. The BTN crew will travel over 3,000 miles, adding a new stop in Lincoln, Neb., during the 15-day stretch. The first preview show will air at 8 p.m. ET on Aug. 14 from Wisconsin, launching 12 consecutive nights of Big Ten previews. Penn State's preview show will air at 8 p.m. ET on Aug. 21 following a visit by the BTN crew to Happy Valley. (more)
The Big Ten Network will air several of the Nittany Lions' most memorable victories on Tuesday, July 26, with 13 consecutive hours of Penn State programming. Additional Penn State programming will air the mornings of July 26 and 27 on BTN. The Penn State men's and women's basketball, football and women's volleyball teams will be featured on the third Penn State Day this summer on BTN. Among the events that will air Tuesday is the Penn State women's volleyball team's fourth consecutive NCAA Championship, a 3-0 win over California last December. The match airs at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and will re-air July 27 at 8:30 a.m. (more)
The four-time defending national champion Penn State women's volleyball team will have at least seven televised matches during the 2011 season. The Nittany Lions will be featured on the Big Ten Network six times and also have one match broadcast on ESPN2. The Nittany Lions open the 2011 season hosting the AVCA Showcase on Aug. 26-27 at Rec Hall. Joining the Lions at Rec Hall are Minnesota, USC and Oregon. Minnesota opens the Showcase versus USC at 6 p.m. on Aug. 26 followed by Penn State against Oregon at 8 p.m. On Aug. 27, Minnesota challenges Oregon at 6 p.m. and the Nittany Lions take on USC at 8 p.m. All four matches are set to be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. Penn State's Oct. 22 match with Michigan will be tape-delayed and aired on ESPN2 at 1 p.m. on Oct. 23. (more)
