A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Fourteen flavors of Penn State's famous Berkey Creamery ice cream will be available for local pick up this summer.

Half-gallons of the treat so fresh that it "mooves" from cow to cone in four days can be ordered online with a credit card at behrend.psu.edu/creameryicecream, or by calling the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College at 814-898-6159. (more)

The Penn State Lehigh Valley Alumni Society is now taking orders for its spring Berkey Creamery ice cream sale. Orders are being accepted through March 12 and ice cream will be available for pick up from 5-7 p.m. on March 29 at the campus in Center Valley. Proceeds from the ice cream sale benefit the Alumni Society's First-Year Scholarship fund for Penn State Lehigh Valley students.

Penn State York to celebrate homecoming Oct. 21, 22

"Pride, Strength, Unity/Three Words, Two Colors, One Body" is the theme for Penn State York's homecoming set for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21 and 22. Events take place beginning Friday with art shows, reunions, and an evening program, "Ice Cream with the Coaches," where people can enjoy Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream and meet the coaches of Penn State York's athletic teams.

Beginning in the afternoon on Oct. 21, visitors can check out the artwork of Penn State York students on the lower level of the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center (The Pullo Center) and enjoy the photographs of Victoria Weaver's exhibit, "A Photographic Narrative of Mohegan Island, Maine," inside the Lee R. Glatfelter Library. Both exhibits can be viewed from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday and then all day Saturday, Oct. 22.

Two reunions are set to take place from 5-7 p.m. Alumni who graduated in engineering will have the chance to network and tour the new Ralph G. and Madeline B. Swenson Engineering Center that opened in campus in August . Members of the Information Sciences and Technology Affiliated Society, will includes computer science and information sciences and technology graduates, will also gather and have the opportunity to make new friends and visit with old ones. Bob Hay prepares his morning delivery of Penn State Berkey Creamery dairy products for the University Park community. Each year Hay delivers more than 400,000 gallons of milk and cream to the students living in Penn State's residence halls. His delivery route includes the HUB-Robeson Center, Bryce Jordan Center, The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel as well as the Nittany Lion Inn.

The Penn State Lehigh Valley Alumni Society is accepting orders through Oct. 24 for its annual Berkey Creamery ice cream sale. Ice cream orders will be available for pick up from 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 10. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Alumni Society First Year Scholarship Fund. Those interested can choose from 14 flavors including Peachy Paterno, Bittersweet Mint and WPSU Coffee Break.

When you sink your teeth (or tongue, for those more sensitive to the cold) into a creamy, silky-smooth scoop of Peachy Paterno, the taste in your mouth is not the result of an epiphany. Long before Joe Paterno coached his way onto the menu at Penn State's world-famous Berkey Creamery, University researchers were hard at work mastering the many aspects of food and dairy science which, combined, deliver that scoop of ice cream from the cow to your cone in spectacular fashion. Penn State's Berkey Creamery hand-delivered a total of 120 gallons of three specially named ice cream flavors to Washington, D.C., for presidential inauguration festivities. BaRocky Road, Obama White House and BidenBerry will be scooped for attendees of the 2009 Pennsylvania Inaugural Gala, and potentially to their namesakes themselves, as Barack Obama and Joe Biden make their way around the nation's capital to celebrate at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Penn State students are invited to visit the Berkey Creamery on Wednesday morning, April 16, between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m., when CN8, the Comcast television network, will broadcast live segments during two of its morning shows. Students who come to the Creamery during those hours may have the chance to be interviewed live on the topic of the Youth Vote. (more)
