The public is invited to attend two upcoming events sponsored by the Penn State Beaver Alumni Society. A bowl-a-thon will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, March 24, at Baden Bowl in Baden, Pa.; and the Alumni Society's 12th annual golf outing will be held Monday, Sept. 10, Seven Oaks Country Club in Brighton Township, Pa. Event proceeds will benefit the society's endowed scholarship at the Beaver campus. (more)
The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education will offer "Counseling and Teaching Youth at Risk," a three-credit graduate class for teachers and counselors, 5-8:30 p.m., Thursdays, March 1 through May 3 at Lincoln Junior-Senior High School in Ellwood City, Pa.
This course is designed to provide educators, counselors, therapists, psychologists and other health-education professionals with an overview of information focused on counseling and teaching youth-at-risk. (more)
Four Penn State Beaver senior communication majors were honored at the 72nd annual Pennsylvania Communication Association Conference held last fall at Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa. (more)
Two ongoing and controversial topics will be the subject of speakers this spring at Penn State Beaver. African-American author Daryl Davis will present "Klan-Destine Relationships" at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, and filmmaker Mike Ramsdell will present "The Conflict Minerals Project," 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 14. The programs, which are free and open to the public, will be held in the campus Student Union Building auditorium. (more)
Neelam Dwivedi, instructor in information sciences and technology at Penn State Beaver, will present "Sustaining the Innovative Edge" from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22, in Room 16 of the Student Union Building on campus. The program, which is the first in Beaver's Spring Faculty Speakers Series, is free and open to the public. (more)
Penn State Beaver alumnus Justin Vorbach is the winner of the 2012 Student Keystone Press Award in the category of Cartoon/Graphic Illustration. He was honored for photo and cover illustrations and an editorial cartoon he contributed to spring semester editions of The Roar, Beaver's student newspaper, during his senior year. The Student Keystone Press Awards recognize college and high school journalism that provides relevance, integrity and initiative in serving readers.
