Most Army ROTC seniors don't know what and where their first official assignment for the U.S. Army will be until close to their college graduation. Penn State senior Michael Miller of Macungie, Pa., does. The secondary math education major was ranked seventh among 5,643 Army cadets on the nationwide Order of Merit List. Cadets ranked in the top 10 of their national graduating class get to choose their future. Miller chose to work as a signal officer, and will most likely be stationed just outside of Augusta, Ga., at Fort Gordon. (more)

Two Army sergeants living in Virginia chose Penn State online degree programs to help them achieve their education goals while serving on active duty. Margaret Smith works in a military intelligence unit at Fort Meade, Md., and Richard Bright is in retention and attrition management at Fort Lee, Va. Both will travel to Penn State's University Park campus to pick up their bachelor's degrees during the College of the Liberal Arts' commencement ceremony on May 14. (more)

The Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association is conducting a non-perishable goods drive during the ice cream sales they'll hold prior to some of the shows at the Penn State Beaver Brodhead Cultural Center. Any kind of non-perishable food or product is welcome. The chapter will collect items from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on July 15, July 29, August 12, and August 26 at the Brodhead Cultural Center.
