Mike Rybar made final adjustments to the Penn State Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering teams Goldberg machine prior to the 2012 Rube Goldberg competition held on Feb. 11 at Penn State's Nittany Lion Inn. Rybar and his team created a musically themed machine that needed to complete a simple task (inflate a balloon) in twenty or more elaborate steps. The annual competition is named for cartoonist Rube Goldberg who created famous artwork depicting overly complicated machines doing everyday tasks.

Tutwiler named deputy director of NC2IF

Richard L. Tutwiler, a senior research associate at Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory, has been named as deputy director of the Center for Network-Centric Cognition and Information Fusion (NC2IF), a research center led by the University's College of Information Sciences and Technology that explores the gap between the collection of reports and data in computer systems and human decision-making. Tutwiler, who assumed the position on Jan. 1, replaces Pete Forster, a senior lecturer at the College of IST. (more)

Maureen S. Joly of Allentown, Pa., has accepted the position as director of development at Penn State Lehigh Valley. In this position, Joly will be responsible for overseeing and managing all fundraising efforts for the campus.

Joly has 18 years of experience in development and fundraising in the Lehigh Valley. Prior to her appointment, she was the director of development for the Allentown Symphony Association, and has worked for other nonprofit organizations including Grace Montessori School and Sacred Heart Hospital. "International affairs professionals must understand the latest evidence-based methods of evaluating the cost of war, nature of violence, and dynamics of civil unrest. Sandy Feather has been promoted to director of enrollment management at Penn State Worthington Scranton.

Feather has been employed at Penn State Worthington Scranton since 2005. As associate director of enrollment management and admissions, she was responsible for establishing several new programs at the campus, such as Partners in Success, the Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Summer Academy, and instituted program target marketing and middle school outreach efforts to enhance Worthington Scranton's overall student recruitment and retention goals. In his new position, Lewis will be responsible for developing instructional design services, materials, and delivery methods at the campus; integrating technology into teaching, learning, and research activities; and collaborating with students, faculty, staff, and administrators in developing instructional materials for projects and delivery.
