Despite the fact that he's a tight end for the New Orleans Saints and a ten-year veteran of the National Football League, Penn State Berks alumnus John Gilmore Jr. never forgot his roots. A native of the City of Reading, Gilmore co-founded the Gilmore/Henne Community Fund, which provides grants to revitalize parks and recreational facilities in Berks County. (more)

Eleven young Penn State alumni were honored for outstanding professional accomplishment and presented with the Penn State Alumni Association's Alumni Achievement Award at a dinner ceremony March 30 at The Nittany Lion Inn on the University Park campus. Penn State University alumna Maggie Jeffries, who holds a doctor of medicine degree and works as an anesthesiologist in northeast Florida, has been honored with the Alumni Achievement Award, which is given by the Penn State Alumni Association to outstanding alumni younger than 35 years. Jeffries, who also serves as the coordinator of the Evidence-Based Anesthesia Practice at Baptist Nassau Medical Center and Southeast Georgia Health System, lives with her husband, Shawn Williams, and three rescue dogs in Amelia Island, Fla. Thirteen young Penn State alumni will be honored for outstanding professional accomplishment and presented with the Penn State Alumni Association's Alumni Achievement Award at a dinner ceremony Friday (April 9) at The Nittany Lion Inn on the University Park campus. The award winners, who live from "Chocolate Town" to "Tinseltown," work in areas ranging from high-tech laser light shows and Internet startups to marketing buttery soft pretzels. These moguls-in-the-making are receiving the 2010 Alumni Achievement Award for reaching an extraordinary level of professional accomplishment, all by the age of 35 or younger. (more)

Seven young Penn State alumni were honored for outstanding professional accomplishment and presented with the Penn State Alumni Association's Alumni Achievement Award in a dinner ceremony on April 3 at The Nittany Lion Inn on the University Park campus. From a filmmaker to a doctor to a glaciologist, the 2009 Alumni Achievement Award honorees have reached an extraordinary level of professional accomplishment, all by the age of 35 or younger. These prominent young alumni are nominated by an academic college or campus, selected by a University-wide committee and invited by President Graham B. Spanier to return to campus to share their expertise with students and the University community. The Alumni Achievement Award began in 2005 and since then has honored 49 outstanding alumni. (more)
