New graduates of Penn State's Eberly College of Science listened to the commencement address provided by United States Secretary of Energy Steven Chu during spring 2012 graduation ceremonies held May 5 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Penn State honors six with Outstanding Science Alumni Award

Six alumni of Penn State's Eberly College of Science were honored recently with the Outstanding Science Alumni Award for the year 2009. Receiving this award were Mark Becker, Jack Dickstein, Laura "Kate" Hutton, Alvaro Umana, Ching P. "CP" Wong and Carol Zaher. This award, established in 1997 by the Board of Directors of the Eberly College of Science Alumni Society, recognizes alumni who have a record of significant professional achievements in their field and who are outstanding role models for the current students in the college. Transportation safety a key issue at upcoming Penn State conference

The federal government has provided $1.33 billion in stimulus dollars to date toward transportation improvements in Pennsylvania. Using these funds to improve public safety is critical, according to experts. Penn State will address this topic and related issues at the 2009 Transportation Engineering and Safety Conference, to be held from Dec. 9 to 11, at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. (more)
