University Park, Pa. -- Dolores Maney recently joined Penn State's Office of Research Protections (ORP) as a research compliance coordinator I. Formerly an assistant professor of kinesiology at the University, she now is responsible for coordinating the review of social science applications for the use of human participants at the exemption-review level.

Laura Young, former customer service specialist in ORP, was promoted to administrative assistant for the Conflict of Interest and Research Misconduct Committees. She has been a staff member in ORP for two and a half years.

Kimberly Gardner was named customer service specialist in ORP. She previously worked in customer service in the University Parking Office.

The Office of Research Protections monitors Penn State researchers' compliance with federal regulations that safeguard the public and the human participants and animal subjects used in scientific, agricultural and medical investigations. The office also offers education, training and assistance in complying with the protection of human research participants and animal care and use regulations, avoiding conflict of interest, and adhering to research ethics.
