Firefighters battled a controlled blaze on the tarmac at Penn State's University Park Airport on May 23 during a full-scale emergency exercise. The exercise was designed to provide real-time training and recertification for emergency response personnel from around the Centre Region.

A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

Animal care training, education conference set

University Park, Pa. --- Office of Research Protections at Penn State will host the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) 101 conference on Nov. 2, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Nittany Lion Inn on the University Park campus.

The program is described as a full day training course that is interactive and educational for IACUC affiliates, animal care staff, investigators and any other faculty, staff, student or community member involved in animal research. The program is co-sponsored by the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW), National Institutes of Health.
