Research Protections Office staff certified by national organizations

University Park, Pa. --- Tracie Kahler, the institutional review board (IRB) administrator for continuing reviews in Penn State's Office of Research Protections, recently received the "high score of the class" in the most recent IRB management certification examination administered by the National Organization of IRB Administrators (NAIM).

Candice Yekel, director of the Office of Research Protections, also successfully completed the NAIM examination in the current round of testing. Both Kahler and Yekel are now certified IRB managers (CIM). Certification lasts for three years and must be renewed at the end of that period.

Jodi Mathieu, IRM administrator for social science, and Mary Becker, IRB administrator for biomedical, recently became certified IRB professionals (CIP). They earned their certification from the council for Certification of IRB Professionals administered by the Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research (PRIM&R) organization and the Applied Research Ethics National Association (ARENA).

William Greer, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, and University Isotope Committee compliance coordinator, earned laboratory animal technician certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
