UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Poultry Science Club in Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences finished in the top three in all three awards categories in the College Student Career Program at the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association's 2012 International Poultry Exposition, held recently in Atlanta, Ga.

The club took third place in the competition for Club of the Year and third place for Scrapbook of the Year. Club president Philip Wise, of Spring Mills, Pa., an agricultural science major with an avian and poultry science minor, finished in second place for Student of the Year.

"It's an honor to be recognized for my achievements in poultry, and I look forward to entering the industry upon graduation this May," Wise said.

The expo is the world's largest trade show for the poultry and egg industry, drawing more than 20,000 people from more than 100 countries to see the latest products, services and technology.

In addition to sponsoring the awards competition among nearly 30 university poultry science clubs, the College Student Career Program gives undergraduate students an opportunity to interview for employment with more than 60 companies.

The Poultry Science Club's mission is to promote the study of avian species and enhance members' understanding of the poultry industry. Members, who number nearly 40, participate in a variety of career, social and community-service activities each academic year.

The club took third place in the Best Scrapbook category for its collection of photos and text showing all activities the club has participated in over the year. The scrapbook displays what the club has accomplished and is taken to events to tell the club's story to prospective students, potential club members, alumni and the poultry industry.
