Mike Rybar made final adjustments to the Penn State Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering teams Goldberg machine prior to the 2012 Rube Goldberg competition held on Feb. 11 at Penn State's Nittany Lion Inn. Rybar and his team created a musically themed machine that needed to complete a simple task (inflate a balloon) in twenty or more elaborate steps. The annual competition is named for cartoonist Rube Goldberg who created famous artwork depicting overly complicated machines doing everyday tasks.

'A Memorial for Joe' to be broadcast live

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The public memorial service for legendary Penn State football head coach Joe Paterno, "A Memorial for Joe," scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, will be broadcast live from the Bryce Jordan Center on various media outlets. The Big Ten Network will provide television coverage of the event. In addition, the service will be available via Web stream at http://www.BTN.com and BTN2Go, and at http://www.gopsusports.com/. ESPN Radio 1450 in State College will provide radio coverage, and WPSU will rebroadcast the service at 8 p.m.

Coverage of the memorial service may also be available via local outlets. Those who want to view the service should check their local listings if they do not receive the Big Ten Network.

Tickets for the memorial service have been distributed and are no longer available. Capacity for the service will be approximately 12,600.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania (http://www.specialolympicspa.org) or the Penn State THON (The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon; at http://www.thon.org or by calling 800-392-THON). Donors are asked to indicate that gifts are being made in memory of Joe Paterno.
