University Park, Pa. -- A three-day celebration of 50 years of student radio at Penn State starts Friday, March 19, and the College of Communications and the Penn State Student Radio Reunion Committee have invited alumni and their guests back to the University Park campus to attend the weekend of events.
Activities begin with a welcome reception at The Nittany Lion Inn on Friday, March 19. On Saturday, March 20, alumni and guests will have the opportunity to tour AccuWeather and the All-Sports Museum, and to attend an open house of the WKPS-FM offices and studios.
A panel discussion Saturday will feature alumni currently working in broadcast media who began their careers at Penn State, among them Joe Berwanger, vice president and general manager of WDIV-TV in Detroit; Bryan Myers, producer, "Now with Bill Moyers" on PBS; Ellen McDonnell, executive producer, "Morning Edition," National Public Radio; and Bob Zimmerman, retired president of Tele-Media Broadcasting.
A celebration dinner and dance will take place Saturday evening at The Nittany Lion Inn with a video presentation, an acknowledgement of Penn State student radio pioneers and keynote addresses by McDonnell and Al Resnick, an engineer with Carl T. Jones Corp.
