Work has officially begun on the 2003 Penn State senior class gift, the HUB historical mural. Nationally-known artist Richard Haas recently visited University Park for the first time since being named the artist for the project, which will depict the past 50 years of Penn State's history on a wall in the HUB-Robeson Center. Haas gathered information for starting preliminary work on the project. He compared researching and choosing what should be portrayed in the mural to putting together a film. "You can't say it all, it would be too chaotic," he explained. "The space must be well-utilized in a creative way. Ninety percent of your research will end up on the cutting-room floor." The mural will be unveiled on Feb. 22, 2005 -- the University's 150th birthday.
