A Moroccan farmer taught Penn State students about the properties of vetiver grass, including its ability to clean wastewater. The grass could be used as part of a solution to water-quality problems being experienced in Assoul, Morocco, where students spent time recently.

President's State of the University Address set for Friday, Sept. 17

University Park, Pa. -- Penn State President Graham B. Spanier will deliver his 2010 State of the University Address in video format to the University's Board of Trustees beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 17. The video portrait is a series of four videos, each focusing on a distinct group of Penn State people -- students, faculty, staff and alumni.

After the board presentation the video will be posted to the president's website for viewing by Penn State faculty, staff and students, as well as the general public.

The video also will be shown on "To the Best of My Knowledge" on WPSU-TV and PCN at 8 p.m. on Sept. 21, and on the Big Ten Network at noon on Sept. 27, 3 a.m. on Sept. 28, 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 25. and 3:30 a.m. Oct. 26.

This is the fifth year Spanier has used the video format for his annual report in an effort to broaden the reach of his State of the University Address. Over the last four years, the video versions have shared Penn Staters' accomplishments with hundreds of thousands of viewers around the world through the Big Ten Network, website, DVDs, podcasts and cable television.
