Power outage continues to affect portion of central campus

Thursday, July 22, 2010

A power outage occurred in the central portion of Penn State's University Park campus at approximately 12:40 p.m. Thursday (July 22), affecting areas including the HUB-Robeson Center, Penn State Bookstore, HUB parking deck, Grange Building, Thomas Building, Pollock Hall and the Millennium Science Complex construction site. Office of Physical Plant employees worked to determine the cause, isolate it and feed the affected buildings from alternate power sources. Shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday power was restored to most buildings, although air conditioning in the HUB-Robeson Center remained offline as of Friday morning. In addition, the Penn State Bookstore continued to be without power; crews continue to work to restore power fully to the remaining areas.

By Thursday evening, crews determined the problem likely originated at the transformer at the Penn State Bookstore. Temporary alternate power feeds restored power to most of the areas. On Friday morning Office of Physical Plant requested voluntary conservation of electricity usage in the HUB as a precautionary measure.
