With four guide ropes attached to it, the east-side clock face is raised into position. While it didn't seem that windy on the ground on Saturday, Jan. 28, winds higher up were strong, requiring extra guidance to bring the clock face safely to the Old Main bell tower.

Ben White of New Vibrations Audio and Video works on a ledge of the Old Main bell tower, to remove the speakers from the old chime system. The company installed a new carillon system today (Jan. 27) that will play a digital recording made of the original Old Main bell that now sits adjacent to Old Main and other bells of comparable sizes.

The funeral procession for Joe Paterno made its way past Beaver Stadium and down Porter Road as crowds applauded on Jan. 25. Thousands lined the procession route through the University Park campus and downtown State College to bid a last farewell to Joe Paterno.

Katie Knobloch and Andrew Adamietz, members of the a capella group Blue in the Face, shared a candle at the vigil held Sunday, Jan. 22, to mourn the death of Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, who passed away earlier in the day. Several thousand members of the Penn State and State College community came out to the Old Main lawn on Penn State's University Park campus for the vigil.

Traffic detours announced near Nittany Parking Deck

As a result of the formation of a sinkhole July 7 on Fischer Road just east of the Nittany Parking Deck on the University Park campus, the Penn State Parking Office has announced a series of detours that will be in place until further notice. All parking areas are expected to remain accessible.

-- All drivers exiting the Green B lot at the Ford Building will be required to turn left and proceed to Allen Road. Access to the Green B lot at the Ford Building will be from Allen Road only.

-- Drivers only will be able to access the Nittany Parking Deck by traveling from Atherton Street to Park Avenue to Fischer Road. Left turns from Park Avenue onto Fischer Road are prohibited.

-- All drivers exiting the Nittany Parking Deck must turn left onto Fischer Road and proceed to Park Avenue. Those who need to travel west will need to run right onto Park Avenue, turn right onto Allen Road and travel to Curtin Road, turn right onto Curtin Road, and travel back to Atherton Street.

-- Drivers who need to access the Nittany Parking Deck from Allen Road should turn right onto Curtin Road, proceed back to Atherton Street, turn right onto Atherton Street and travel north to Park Avenue, turn right onto Park Avenue, then turn right onto Fischer Road.

A previous sinkhole in that portion of Fischer Road was announced on June 17, and similar detours were put into effect until the road was repaired.
