
University Park, Pa. -- Penn State's electricity supplier has issued a hot weather alert for our region through July 9. The expected increase in air conditioning load will place a heavy strain on the regional power grid. A grid emergency has not yet been announced; however, electricity rates for the next few afternoons will be at least double their typical cost.
As a result, Penn State employees are being asked to reduce their afternoon consumption of electricity for the rest of the week, in an effort to offset elevated costs. Employee actions are voluntary at this point, but will have an impact on the University's future rate structure and will help Penn State to conserve its operational budget.
