Still Life

With four guide ropes attached to it, the east-side clock face is raised into position. While it didn't seem that windy on the ground on Saturday, Jan. 28, winds higher up were strong, requiring extra guidance to bring the clock face safely to the Old Main bell tower.

Ben White of New Vibrations Audio and Video works on a ledge of the Old Main bell tower, to remove the speakers from the old chime system. The company installed a new carillon system today (Jan. 27) that will play a digital recording made of the original Old Main bell that now sits adjacent to Old Main and other bells of comparable sizes.

Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital campaign receives recognition

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

A Healthier World Awaits, the Campaign for Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, was recently selected for an Award of Excellence by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) for 2010.

The AAMC established the awards program to honor the exceptional work and contributions that are made by public affairs, alumni, development, public relations and marketing to advancing medicine, research and education in our academic medical centers. Each year the AAMC receives approximately 150 entries from 40-50 medical institutions for the Awards of Excellence competition. Twelve award recipients are selected from the pool of applicants.

Comments from the panel of panel of judges included

  • “Really compelling patient stories. Faculty and caregiver quotes were appropriate and didn’t sound rehearsed.”
  • “The writing was outstanding and the videography was superb. You effectively showed how busy and crowded the current hospital is.”
  • “Powerful storytelling!”

The Penn State Hershey Office of University Development partnered with Penn State Public Broadcasting Creative Services Group (WPSU) to produce a video that illustrates the case for philanthropic support of the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital building. In addition, the Office of Marketing and Communications designed a creative packaging sleeve for the DVD. The video includes the unique perspective of donors, campaign volunteers, community leaders, grateful patients, representatives from the Children’s Hospital medical team, as well as Penn State, Medical Center and College of Medicine leadership.

Kristen Rozansky and Jennifer Groff will accept the award in April in conjunction with the annual AAMC Group on Institutional Advancement conference in Arizona.
