Following a summer of dawn-to-dusk work days, the 2009 Penn State Solar Decathlon team's original concepts and plans quickly became reality.

The team's entry, titled the Natural Fusion home, followed in the footsteps of Penn State's initial Solar Decathlon entry in 2007, dubbed Morningstar. Natural Fusion was imagined, planned, ultimately assembled to completion and presented to the public in the October 2009 -- first at an open house at University Park with special guest Ed Begley Jr. on hand, then at the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon competition in Washington, D.C.

Focusing on natural aesthetics, functional design characteristics and innovative sustainable technology, the house showed visitors a close-up look at the potential for cost-effective, comfortable and environmentally responsible living.
