With four guide ropes attached to it, the east-side clock face is raised into position. While it didn't seem that windy on the ground on Saturday, Jan. 28, winds higher up were strong, requiring extra guidance to bring the clock face safely to the Old Main bell tower.

Ben White of New Vibrations Audio and Video works on a ledge of the Old Main bell tower, to remove the speakers from the old chime system. The company installed a new carillon system today (Jan. 27) that will play a digital recording made of the original Old Main bell that now sits adjacent to Old Main and other bells of comparable sizes.

Security more thorough at Beaver Stadium, fans asked to arrive early

Thursday, September 24, 2009

Due to the Department of Homeland Security alerts issued Monday (Sept. 21) to stadiums, hotels and other venues, Penn State wants fans to know that security measures will be enhanced for the remainder of the football season. Penn State Athletics is asking fans to come to Beaver Stadium gates at least 30 minutes earlier than usual in order to be in their seats by kick off.

The most visible change that will affect fans will be at the gates, where inspections of bags will be more deliberate and thorough, and could cause a delay in entering the gates. The University regulation on bags will be strictly enforced. The current regulation states that "all patrons are required to have bags checked at the gate. Bags or items larger than 8-1/2" x 11" x 11" will not be permitted into the stadium.” There will be no exceptions.

In the security bulletins, DHS officials said they know of no specific plots against such sites, but urged law enforcement and private companies to be vigilant (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32967671).
