Game day visitors invited to tour LionReach vehicle before Akron game

A state-of-the-art vehicle designed to help communities better prepare for emergencies will be open for tours prior to Penn State’s football game against the University of Akron on Saturday.

LionReach is a 53-foot mobile training and evaluation center complete with Web-based simulators, advanced radio communications and computerized mannequins that respond to medical procedures. Managed and maintained by Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center’s Department of Emergency Medicine, LionReach was funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

It is equipped to help community agencies, schools, hospitals and other organizations test their readiness for a host of emergency scenarios, including mass casualty incidents, large-scale hospital evacuations and pandemic flu events.

LionReach staff will be available for tours beginning two-hours prior to the start of the Penn State vs. Akron game until the end of the third quarter. Experts will provide demonstrations of the vehicle’s training capabilities and answer visitor questions.
