Skowron wins Fulbright scholarship to Ireland

Elizabeth A. Skowron, associate professor of counseling psychology, has been awarded a Fulbright scholarship to lecture and conduct research in Ireland next spring.

Skowron will serve her Fulbright at Ireland’s National University of Galway during the spring 2010 semester. Her cross-national research will focus on at-risk families, parenting and risk-and-resiliency factors associated with children’s health outcomes.
 
The Fulbright Scholarship Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late Sen. J. William Fulbright of Arkansas to build mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the rest of the world.

Skowron is professor-in-charge of Penn State’s doctoral program in counseling psychology. She heads the Family Systems Lab housed in the Child Study Center at Penn State and is principal investigator of a study funded by the National Institute of Mental Health to research child maltreatment, family processes and children’s self-regulatory and behavioral outcomes. Her research interests include at-risk families, biology and environment interactions, psychotherapy and the role of family emotion regulation and differentiation of self in healthy families.
