Penn State to host information session for Philadelphia region adults

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Two Penn State campuses and Penn State's online World Campus will provide participants with information on academic majors, admissions and financial aid

University Park, Pa. — A college degree can increase a person's lifetime earnings by $1.2 million over a high school diploma, yet in Pennsylvania, more than 1.2 million adults who are 25 years old or older have earned some college credits, but have not completed a degree, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The organization Graduate! Philadelphia is partnering with colleges and universities in the Greater Philadelphia Region, including Penn State, to help adults in this region achieve their education goals.

As part of this workforce development effort, Penn State will host an information session for adults interested in completing their college degrees. The program will be held from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at Graduate! Philadelphia's College Access Center in The Gallery I, Ninth and Market streets (street level); check-in for participants is 5:30 p.m. Penn State Abington and Penn State Brandywine will have representatives on hand to talk about academic majors, admissions and financial aid policies, and there will be information available about Penn State World Campus online degree programs.

Carol Kalos, Penn State Abington enrollment counselor, said adults who attend the program and submit a complete admissions application will have the application fee waived.

Graduate! Philadelphia is a joint initiative of the Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board and United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. As the newest partner of Graduate! Philadelphia, Penn State is providing academic counseling services at the College Access Center, participating in college fairs and assisting prospective students in other aspects of completing a college degree.

To register for the April 7 program or to request an appointment to talk with a Penn State academic counselor on another date, contact Carol Kalos at (215) 881-7638 or cck11@psu.edu.
