Deadline looming for laureate nominations

University Park, Pa. -- The deadline for nominations for the 2009-10 Penn State Laureate is this Friday, Feb. 27.

The laureate will be a highly visible representative of the University and will bring an enhanced level of social, cultural, artistic, and human perspective and awareness to a broad array of audiences. The position provides an opportunity to bring greater visibility to his or her own work, to bring great credit to Penn State, and to add a more human dimension to the conduct of the usual affairs and business of the Commonwealth, the University and communities.
 
The full-time faculty member chosen as laureate will be assigned half-time to serve as the University Laureate for one academic year. The laureate can be a poet laureate, humanities laureate, or fine arts laureate. The individual selected to be the laureate will be available to appear regularly at University events at University Park, on the Commonwealth campuses, and throughout the state at community and state-wide events.

Nominations are being solicited from throughout the University community and self-nominations are acceptable. A nomination packet should include a one-page letter of nomination addressed to Blannie E. Bowen, vice provost for Academic Affairs, and curriculum vitae of no more than 20 pages. The letter should detail how the nominee will bring an enhanced level of social, cultural, artistic and human perspective and awareness to a broad array of audiences. Nominations may be forwarded as a Word or PDF document to Katryn Boynton at klb8@psu.edu or delivered to 201 Old Main by the Friday, Feb. 27, deadline.
